The first residence of the Kings of France (from the 10th century onwards) and a Medieval palace in the centre of the city, the Conciergerie symbolises the power of the Capetian dynasty and is the largest Gothic and civilian architectural complex of the period.

In the late 14th century, the Conciergerie became the Palace of Justice, the seat of Parliament and later a revolutionary tribunal. A tour of the building is an opportunity to explore its architectural and political history, get a snapshot of everyday life in the Middle Ages and understand the principles of town planning on the Ile de la Cité.
Its education department offers a wide range of learning activities aimed at schools and related to the official curricula. The monument is highly admired for its architecture, history and urban setting and thus provides a strong foundation for multidisciplinary teaching and an introduction to various artistic practices. Our team is on hand to tailor our activities to your class projects.
